Got a part time job at a bakery so that typically means I'm starting my shifts at either 5 or 6am. Tiring but it's not the worst job by any means.
The focus on art lately has been turned more toward the books that I've been hired to write for WEP. That's going slowly because of their packed events schedules and the fact our illustrators tend to say they'll work for us but then don't actually do anything. While I really am not too hurt by this, because yknow, folks have lives and it takes forever to illustrate a whole kids book and its not always fun to put in all this work and not get paid until the book gets published. Still, we'd all get paid faster if the work got done... or at least I hope that'd be the case. It also depends on how many get sold right after it goes to print/digital.
I've been writing outlines for what will be an ongoing graphic novel series involving kitsune. As time goes on, I'll talk more on it. I've got notes and outlines for 6 volumes so far. Not sure just how far out I want it to go.
Going back to the WEP thing, we need mascot styled animal costumes. We do a lot of public performances and educational programs where I suit up as some wildlife creature, typically a fox, coyote or an eagle/hawk, and I tell the story or conduct some sort of performance based lesson that interacts with the audience.... at any rate, since we're nonprofit and are constantly broke, we've been relying on donations, either financially or material. The fox suit in particular was donate from a friend in California, which pushed our performance schedule ahead by almost a year and spearheaded our series of upcoming fox related books.
But, we're looking for at the moment, two more costumes. A wolf and a macaw. They'd have to be friendly looking so as not to terrify the audience and folks would have to be able to hear me through them, since they'll be talking characters. It doesn't matter to me how hot the costume gets from its materials or if its been used or not.
So, that's what I've been up to. Busy but still rather broke. Here's hoping that this year picks up and things improve and I can pull myself out of this financial slump either through more events with WEP, better job prospects outside of the bakery/mascot work and whatnot...
